The largest event in the ICT industry will celebrate its 20th anniversary on the 2nd of December at the Baku Expo Center - Bakutel 2014, the 20th Azerbaijan International Exhibition and Conference on Telecommunications and Information Technologies.


The largest event in the ICT industry will celebrate its 20th anniversary on the 2nd of December at the Baku Expo Center - Bakutel 2014, the 20th Azerbaijan International Exhibition and Conference on Telecommunications and Information Technologies. Over the years, the exhibition has become the leading ICT forum in the Caspian region, attracting the attention of the global community every year. The status of the exhibition is shown by the official visits of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in recent years. The Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan provides valuable support for the exhibition and has played a special role in the development and establishment of the event. Every year, the exhibition and conference plays host to important guests of honour that take part in the grand opening ceremony.

Over 2000 companies from 50 countries have exhibited at Bakutel over 20 years, attracting over one hundred thousand visitors. 19 countries, including South Korea, France, Canada, and Lithuania have presented their national pavilions at this exhibition. Major local companies that are now enjoying great success on the market began their journey with the Bakutel exhibition. Repeat exhibitors include Avirtel LLC, Azercell Telecom LLC, Azerfon LLC, Azqtel LLC, Aztelekom PU, BAKCELL, BestComp Group, Baku Telephone Communications Production Association, Caspel, aspian Navtel, Connect, Delta Telecom LTD, HP, Iskratel, Microsoft Azerbaijan LLC, R.I.S.K. Company, SINAM Ltd., Smart Systems Technology LLC, Softline International, Teleradio Pu and Ultra Technologies. Now, the exhibition is one of the indicators of the implementation of a programme of ICT development in the country, contributing to integration into the global information space, production of national ICT products and the creation of a modern information and communication infrastructure.


250 companies from 23 countries will exhibit at Bakutel, including leading ICT companies, mobile operators from Azerbaijan, communications operators, internet service providers, systems integrators and distributors of famous brands. The exhibition and the conference venue take up three halls and the foyer of the Baku Expo Center. The foyer will be the location of the national pavilion of Azerbaijan, which will present complete information about the work carried out by the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan in recent years, as well as about future plans for the development of the industry. This will also be the location of the pavilion of the United Nations (UN), where their ICT related projects will be demonstrated.

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) will have a stand at the Baku exhibition for the first time. This year, Azerbaijan has been elected as a member of Council of ITU at the conference in Pusan, Korea, for being highly active in contributing to the development of the ICT industry. Next year, ITU will celebrate their 150th anniversary and the stand will display the technological development over these years. The Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan is one of the gold sponsors of the 150-year anniversary celebrations.

Azerbaijan is actively preparing for the First European Games in Baku in 2015, which is also reflected at the Bakutel exhibition. The Baku2015 stand will show the process of preparing for the games and what we can expect to see at the great sports celebration next year.

The active involvement of national pavilions organised with the support of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of the Republic Azerbaijan is becoming a tradition at Bakutel. This year, the United Kingdom, Israel, Italy, Canada, Turkey, Estonia and several other countries will present interesting programmes, product presentations and ICT services which will be new for the region. All of the national pavilions will be located in the second hall of the Baku Expo Center.

The first hall is filled with repeat exhibitors, who are 40% of the total number, as well as those making their debut at the exhibition. There has been a lot of activity from new exhibitors this year. These are mainly foreign exhibitors, whose interest to the local market has noticeably increased as a result of the growing economy of Azerbaijan. Companies exhibiting with separate stands for the first time will include Schneider Electric, Tecnotree from Finland, Smartlink from Switzerland, Corning Optical Communications GmbH & Co. KG and Procera Networks from the USA, Turkish companies Erat Telecom and Erstream, Indian company Sei Trading India, Baltic Servers from Lithuania, Chinese companies GW Delight Technology and Hytera Communications Corporation Limited, Sumitomo Electric (Japan), NVAP and ARSAT from Argentina, which is a country that is represented at the exhibition for the first time.

There will also be a record number of startups among the debut exhibitors. The startups of Azerbaijan have significant support from the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan and is an ongoing feature of Bakutel. Exhibiting at the largest event in the ICT industry of the region at the same level as industry leaders and government bodies offers a unique chance to present a project and attract state and private investments. 30 young developers from Azerbaijan have taken advantage ot his chance this year, using the exhibition to show their inventions, programmes and services. All of the startups will be located in the second hall of the Baku Expo Center at the High Tech Park stand. This year's exhibitors will also include the developers of the "Square Message" project, who were the winners of Startup Weekend Baku that took place in April with the support of Bakutel. Exhibiting with a stand was awarded to them by Bakutel for their interesting development.

Intel (USA) is the General Sponsor of the Bakutel exhibition. Exhibition sponsors include Eurodesign (Azerbaijan) and Tecnotree (Finland).


The telecommunications and ICT market in Azerbaijan has gone through significant change over the last 10 years and continues to progress, which is very noticeable at the Bakutel exhibition, where the latest products and ways to integrate them are demonstrated. This year, the exhibition will present telecommunications and networks, broadband communication and technologies, cable and wireless communication, satellite communication and technologies, equipment and technologies for radio transmission, software and automation systems, IT and office technologies. 45% of the exhibitors have stated that they will make presentations. There will be presentations of the platform in the Azerbaijani language which will allow any user to create their own website in only a few minutes, new online TV for any type of device, applications for mobile telephones that allow for the watching of TV channels even with a bad internet connection, LED video walls that demonstrate art installations, the latest vehicular GPS tracking systems and systems for vehicle fleet control as well as mobile wallet solutions. The exhibition will also feature fibre optical cables, machines for joining optical cables, integrated FTTH (Fiber-to-the-home), quality satellite and land based systems and accessories, from offset parabolic and planar antennae, ground antennae, main stations and equipment for mobile radio communications. Visitors to the exhibition are sure to be interested in the Epson Moviero smart glasses - a unique device for watching videos and for various fields, from medicine to museums and also the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset that will let them step directly inside the world of video games and other computer entertainment and many other innovative devices.

The visitors to the exhibition will be the first to see the high tech solutions, modern technologies and solutions that will enter the market in Azerbaijan in the near future. The thorough introduction of modern communication technologies will allow to raise the effectiveness of implementing priority national projects and the quality and accessibility of social services to the population on the whole territory of the country.


A programme of additional events has been planned to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the exhibition. The first event in the anniversary programme was the "New life: from technologies to art" event, which took place on the 8th of November in the High Tech Park. Bakutel exhibitors together with their children assembled the anniversary logo and the Bakutel clock using computer components. This event became a real celebration for the exhibitors, that were happy to meet in an informal environment with their colleagues. All of the visitors to the exhibition will have the chance to admire the assembled Bakutel logo. The foyer will also contain the Anniversary stand, which shows historical moments from the exhibition over 20 years.

Iteca Caspian will continue to give awards to the best students during their anniversary exhibitions. This year, a special award will be given to first year student Konul Gurbanly, who received 700 points when applying to the Information technologies and engineering systems department of Azerbajan Diplomatic Academy (ADA). All of the repeat exhibitors at the exhibition will be given unusual commemoration souvenirs. Materials related to the anniversary will be published in the printed media produced for the exhibition. This will include the official exhibition catalogue and the "Daily News: Bakutel 2014" newsletter.

All of the exhibitors and visitors will be awarded different surprises and souvenirs in honour of the anniversary of the exhibition. Those who enjoy modern gaming technologies will be able to go to the gaming zone in the foyer of the Baku Expo Center, where a whole range of games will be available. The visitors will be greeted by robots, which will be in Baku with their show for the first time. The events held for the 20th anniversary will create a special and festive atmosphere at this year's exhibition.


The anniversary Bakutel exhibition will allow specialists to discuss the latest trends in the ICT industry around the world as well as the prospects for the development of ICT in Azerbaijan. A range of events will take place in the third hall of the Baku Expo Center on all of the days of the exhibition. The "Internet of things: beyond connectivity" conference, organised by the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan will address issues related to a new stage in the evolution of the internet. Speakers will include Hamadoun Touré, Secretary General of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), Minister of Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ali Abbasov, Intel Vice President John Davies and many others. The international "eGov 3.0: Development trends and new possibilities" organised by the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Microsoft will feature the participation of Deputy Minister of Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmir Velizade and Representatives of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Republic of Azerbaijan, State Committee on Property Issues, State Customs Committee, State Agency on the Provision of Services to Citizens and Social Innovations of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Other participants will be Representatives of the leadership of the Ministry of Communication and Mass Media of Russia, Skolkovo technological park, Microsoft, Heads of related departments of the World bank, Federal Chancellery of Austria, Administration of the Prime Minister of Turkey and specialists in electronic government from South Korea, Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, Moldova and other countries. The conference on "Computer Science Education - Today's Challenges" will cover the subject of education in the ICT field, which currently requires modernization and new methods in Azerbaijan. The conference will be organised with the participation of ACM Chapter, an organisation involved in educational programmes in the ICT sphere. (Baku Expo Center, 3 December) The opening of the first "Femmes Digitales" club for women in Azerbaijan will also take place as part of the Bakutel exhibition.
