Baku – APA-Economics. Azerbaijan’s first telecommunication satellite will be launched into orbit in the first decade of February, said the Minister of Communication and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on outcomes of socio-economic development for 2012 and duties in 2013 under the chairmanship of President Ilham Aliyev. The Minister said that the satellite, with the weight of 3.2 tonnes, was produced by the US Orbital Company and will be launched into orbit by French Arian Company. 20% of satellite will be used to meet Azerbaijan’s demand, other 80% - for commercial purposes. Conditional contracts for utilization of 40% of the satellite have already been signed. Abbasov says establishment of regional management centre and reserve management centre has been completed: “The centre will be used for management of satellites of other countries flying over the region”. To observe the Earth, an universal acceptance and processing system will be installed here. Abbasov noted that for observation of Earth, Azerbaijan’s satellite will be launched into low earth orbit in 2015, second telecommunication – in 2016. The Minister also said that a staff on cosmic technologies is being prepared: “25-28 aged 30 national specialists, trained in US, France and Malaysia, have been prepared during past 3 years”.
