TASIM project participants to gather in Baku

The next meeting of the members of the Transnational Eurasian Information Super Highway construction project will be held in June in Baku, the head of the project's working group, Zaur Hasanov told Trend.

The aspects of the principle agreement on the implementation of the cable line project are expected to be discussed at the meeting, he said.

As Hasanov said earlier, the document is quite complex, and the parties have to revise some details.

The document is to define the business model of the project, as well as the way how the traffic management will be managed, as well as distribution of investment and income.

The agreement in principle is supposed to resolve the issue as laying the Caspian segment of cable line, which is part of the TASIM project.

At present, TASIM project involves countries such as Russia (Rostelecom operator), Kazakhstan (KazTransCom operator), Turkey (TurkTelecom operator), China (China Telecom operator), and Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan in the project is represented by the Center for International Relations and Calculations under the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies.

In accordance with the preliminary estimates, the cost of the project is estimated at $100 million, and after approval of certain aspects, it can be adjusted.

The investments will be distributed equally between the project participants.

The project envisages the creation of a major communication transit line from Frankfurt to Hong Kong. The network that brings together the biggest information exchange centers of Europe and Asia will run through the territories of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Georgia, China, and Kazakhstan, to Germany. An alternative north transit communication line will be laid through the territories of Russia, Ukraine and Poland.

The project is aimed at reducing poverty, and accelerating economic growth. It may also play a leading role in region's development. The TASIM project intends to connect a total of 20 countries. Its implementation will eliminate the information gap between Western Europe and the Pacific Basin.
