Azerbaijan, Iran to launch joint production of telecommunication equipment
By Huseyn Veliyev - Trend:
Azerbaijan and Iran will be able to launch a joint production of telecommunication equipment, Deputy Minister of Communications and High Technologies Iltimas Mammadov told reporters Sept.25 after a meeting with the Iranian delegation in Baku.
Azerbaijan is very optimistic about the development of bilateral relations with Iran in the field of ICT and, despite the fact that currently the ICT sector accounts for a small share in the overall structure of cooperation between the two countries, there are various ways which will make it possible to establish cooperation, he said.
He said these ways can include the co-production of computer and telecommunications equipment.
"Iran has a product line of copper and fiber optic cables. Manufactured products allow to cover the domestic needs and to export the product on the regional market. The issue of organizing joint production corresponding to the European standards of production in Iran or Azerbaijan may become a subject of discussion," Mammadov said.
The foundation of bilateral cooperation in these areas is laid today, and it may be the subject of discussions at subsequent meetings, he said.
In addition, Iranian companies have already expressed their willingness to be represented in the "Park of High Technologies of Azerbaijan", foundation of which will be laid in late 2014.
The construction of "High-Tech Park" (Technopark) is to be in the Pirallahi district of Baku. Some 50 hectares of land there has been allocated for construction of the park.
Administrative and residential buildings will be built in Technopark.
An incubation center, mini-factories for the production of high-tech products, etc. will be created at the park.
With the beginning of the park's activities the ICT spheres will expand and the creation of modern research facilities and development of new information technologies will be provided. The park will play an important role in the sustainable development of the economy and competitiveness.
