Bakutel 2014: a significant event for the ICT sector in the Caspian Region
The 20th Anniversary Azerbaijan International Telecommunications and Information Technologies Exhibition and Conference, Bakutel 2014, opened today at Baku Expo Centre . The exhibition is organized by Iteca Caspian, ITE Group Plc and Caspian Event Organizers.
Over the years, the exhibition has become the leading ICT forum in the Caspian region, annually attracting the attention of the global community. The attendance in recent years of Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, at Bakutel, emphasizes the high status of this, the largest specialist event in the field of ICT. This year the head of state led the VIP tour of the anniversary exhibition, which included industry ministers from Azerbaijan, Sudan, Turkey, Egypt, Iran, Bulgaria and Hungary, as well as many prominent specialists, managers and experts in the field of ICT.
Visitorsí interest in the exhibition is piqued in the foyer, where the national stand of Azerbaijan offers detailed information on the activities and future projects for the development of the sector from the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan. Also here, demonstrating important developments in the ICT sector, is the stand of the United Nations. The International Telecommunication Union is participating with a stand at this exhibition for the first time. The Baku 2015 stand, which reflects Azerbaijanís preparations for next yearís European Games, is also situated in the lobby of Baku Expo Centre.
This year the exhibition presents telecommunications, networking, broadband, wireless and satellite communications technologies; software and automation systems; and IT and office technologies. Two hundred and fifty companies from 23 countries, including leading ICT companies, mobile operators, Internet service providers, systems integrators and distributors of well-known brands, are participating in the anniversary Bakutel. Great Britain, Israel, Italy, Canada, Turkey, Croatia and Estonia are among the countries present at the exhibition, demonstrating ICT products and services which are not only new to Azerbaijan, but to the whole Caspian region.
It should be noted that almost half of the exhibitors have kicked off their presentations, offering visitors a universal platform in Azerbaijani, Azerbaijan's first ERP system, an LED video wall for art installations, the latest GPS technologies for tracking and vehicle fleet management solutions, "mobile wallet" solutions and more. Other products and services on display include fibre-optic cables, integrated solutions and services for fibre-optic technology, FTTH (Fibre-to-the-home), high-quality satellite and terrestrial systems and accessories, the unique gadget glasses made by Epson Moverio and Oculus Rift, and an innovative virtual-reality helmet.
The composition of newcomers also includes start-ups, of which a record number are present this year. They are supported by the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan and their presence is one of the traditions at Bakutel. The anniversary Bakutel offers a platform for wide-ranging business dialogue between specialists, including conferences and seminars that will enable the discussion of the latest trends in the global ICT industry as well as the prospects for the development of ICT in Azerbaijan.
Invaluable support for the development of Bakutel is provided by the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan. The exhibition is also supported by the National Confederation of Entrepreneursí (Employers) Organizations of Azerbaijan Republic and the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO). For many years the exhibition has been supported by influential structures including the United Nations and the International Telecommunication Union.
