Today is the last day of the 20th Anniversary Azerbaijan International Telecommunications and Information Technologies Exhibition and Conference, Bakutel 2014. More than 250 companies from 23 countries have presented their innovations, projects and services here. And, over the past 20 years, more than 2,000 companies from 50 countries and more than 100,000 visitors have participated in the exhibition in total.
The high status of the exhibition is emphasized by the attendance in recent years of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. This year, as is tradition, the head of the state led the VIP tour of the exhibition, expressing his confidence that the fruitful discussions that would be held by participants during the exhibition and conferences would contribute to the future deepening of mutual relations.
In his speech to the participants of Bakutel 2014, President Ilham Aliyev observed that this traditional event has become the place for the presentation of achievements in advanced technologies and innovations, and for the establishment of business relations and the exchange of experience, as well as offering the chance for visitors to get to know our country. According to many high-ranking guests and participants, the exhibition is an important event not only in the South Caucasian region but also among global market leaders. The signing of an agreement between Azerbaijan’s International Space Operator, Azercosmos, and the French company Airbus Defence and Space took place with the involvement of President Ilham Aliyev.
Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union Dr Hamadoun Toure congratulated the organizers of Bakutel on the important anniversary, and expressed his gratitude for their great work in the development of the ICT sector.
The industry ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Iran, Israel and Hungary, as well as specialists, leaders and investors in the field of ICT offered celebratory greetings and congratulations in their speeches at the conferences and in conversations with journalists.
The national stand of Azerbaijan, the stand of the United Nations, the stand of the International Telecommunication Union, and a stand titled Baku 2015, which reflected Azerbaijan’s preparations for the European Games next year, drew visitors into the exhibition. This year, the rich national displays from Great Britain, Israel, Italy, Japan, Russia, Turkey and Estonia emphasized the significance of the event. The companies from these countries were demonstrating telecommunications, network, broadband, wireless and satellite communications and technologies; software and automation systems; and other IT and office technologies. For the first time there were 18 national stands, including those from Austria, Hungary, France, Canada and Lithuania.
As was noted by many foreign participants, the efforts of the organizers and the support of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan have turned Bakutel into a business platform for foreign companies wishing to discover the ICT potential of the country. At the same time, the exhibition presents opportunities for the Azerbaijani participants to demonstrate their special innovations, and contributes to the creation and consolidation of relationships between colleagues and partners from around the world.
The exhibition will be remembered for a long time by the thousands of visitors and participants at this grand event. The exhibition, which is one of the most significant events in ICT, attracted the attention of many state agencies from different countries around the world, and offered the best and most convincing proof of the rapid growth of Azerbaijan’s economy, particularly in the ICT sector, which has been and is involved in major international projects and with international investors. The adoption of the National Strategy for the Development of the Information Society 2014-2020 clearly indicates that the state policy in this field is consistent.
The wide-ranging anniversary programme made a great impression on the many visitors, and offered surprises for industry professionals and newcomers to the ICT sector alike. It was as if the whole global market was on offer as a result of the excellent displays from world-famous companies.
