Azerbaijan, U.S. discuss prospects of ICT cooperation
Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov has met with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Azerbaijan Robert Cekuta. Speaking about ICT reforms and regional initiatives carried out in Azerbaijan, Minister Ali Abbasov noted that the ICT sector may contribute significantly to the successful development of bilateral relations between the two countries.
Minister said that Azerbaijan attaches a special importance to the Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway (TASIM) project, which is being coordinated by Azerbaijan. Speaking about development trends of the internet in the country, the Minister said that the “National Broadband Internet” project will promote this development in the future. Minister also spoke about the prospects of development of the space industry in the country. Touching upon the participation of American companies in Azerbaijani market, he emphasised that Azerbaijan has established successful cooperation with companies, such as Cisco Systems, HP, and Microsoft.
In turn, Ambassador Robert Cekuta said that he has familiarized himself with the reforms carried out in Azerbaijan. He expressed satisfaction with the fact that the ICT sector was declared a priority direction in the future development of the country’s economy.
Speaking about Azerbaijan-US cooperation in the satellite industry, the diplomat expressed willingness to organize trainings for Azerbaijani personnel in the US in certain specialties. He said that the US is interested in sharing its ICT experience with Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, the sides also voiced proposals on further strengthening of Azerbaijan-US relations and exchanged views on future plans.
