Azerbaijan, France discuss cooperation in space industry and nuclear research
Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov met with a delegation headed by Matthias Fekl, Minister of State for Foreign Trade of France. Speaking about the cooperation between Azerbaijan and France, Minister Ali Abbasov noted the successful development of these relations in various areas, including in the fields of space industry and nuclear research.
Touching upon the active role of French companies in Azerbaijan’s economy, the Minister noted active participation of French companies in the launch of the country’s first telecommunications satellite Azerspace-1 into orbit.
In turn, Minister of State for Foreign Trade of France Matthias Fekl shared his impressions of Baku 2015 first European Games. The distinguished guest congratulated the Azerbaijani people on this occasion, underlined quality and high level organization of the games, as well as success of Azerbaijani sportsmen who showed good results leaving France behind by the number of medals.
Noting mutual visits and meetings of the two presidents, Francois Hollande and Ilham Aliyev give impetus to the development of cooperation, French Minister expressed willingness to further expand the possibilities of cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of nuclear technology, communications and space industry.
Minister Ali Abbasov, in turn, noted the mutual interest in the continuation of successful cooperation, emphasized some points that can damage the development of these relations, in particular, the issue of the recently signed Charter of friendship and cooperation between three cities of France and three cities of so-called Daghlig Garabagh Republic (NKR). The Minister said French authorities gave a reaction to this fact, causing a serious concern, and it was anticipated.
Matthias Fekl said that they were aware of the matter, and this issue has caused a negative reaction in the official circles of France.
